ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Chauncey Billups, Shooting guard Arron Afflalo, Small forward Carmelo Anthony, Power forward Kenyon Martin, Center Nene. Bench -- Center Chris Andersen, Guard J.R. Smith, Guard Ty Lawson, Guard Anthony Carter. PLAYER NOTES: --G Chauncey Billups often says he doesn't need to score to be effective. Friday's 105-79 win over the Lakers was a perfect example. Billups shot just 1-of-8 and scored eight points. But he had eight assists while playing just 26 minutes. Knowing wing players Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith were hot, Billups was content to find them. With Smith getting into the groove after three games after missing seven because of an NBA suspension, Billups doesn't need to score as much now.
--G Ty Lawson had perhaps the highlight of Friday's game against the Lakers when the 5-foot-11 point guard in the second half threw down a dunk over Lakers 7-foot center D.J. Mbenga. "By far," Lawson said of it being his best-ever dunk. "I'd dunked over a 6-10 guy before but never a 7-footer."
--C Chris Andersen might not be blocking as many shots these days, but he sure is grabbing rebounds. Andersen is averaging just 1.20 blocks, which is way down from the 2.46 he had last season when he finished second in the NBA. But Andersen is in line to average a career high in rebounds. He had 11 Friday against the Lakers and is averaging 7.1, better than his career best entering the season of 6.7.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--G Anthony Carter sat out Friday's 105-79 win over the Lakers because of a left hip strain. Carter is listed as day-to-day for what was called a chronic injury that sometimes flares up on him.
