Sonny Weems, G, 6-6, Arkansas -- Athletic swingman the Nuggets will take a look at for the future and who doesn't make a lot of money. That's important for a team over the luxury tax and looking to cut costs. PLAYER NOTES:
--After his defensive performance was much maligned in five NBA seasons, Nuggets F Carmelo Anthony believes his Olympic performance showed he can step up as a stopper.
"I can bring what I brought to Team USA back to the Denver Nuggets," Anthony said.
--C Nene spent the summer primarily working out in Denver after spending most of his previous offseasons in his native Brazil. Taking over as the starter from Marcus Camby and still working his way back from testicular cancer, Nene knows this is a very big season for him.
--Nuggets rookie Sonny Weems, who underwent sports hernia surgery July 31, couldn't say for sure whether he'll be ready for the first day of training camp. His agent, Roger Montgomery, though, said Nuggets athletic trainer Jim Gillen has said Weems will have recovered.
