--Count Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony among those who want Cleveland star LeBron James to compete February in his first dunk contest during All-Star Weekend. "I hope so," Anthony said. "He mentioned before that he might. I want to see that." James, in his seventh season, said last February during All-Star Weekend there was a good chance he would compete in 2010 in Dallas. However, he now seems to be backing off, saying that he was caught up in the emotion of the event last season and it's now "50-50" whether he will compete.
As for Anthony, don't on him ever being in an All-Star dunk contest.
"(I'm not) getting in a dunk contest," he said. "I'll sit there and watch it. Because (dunking isn't) what I do. You've got people who do that."
--Before training camp started, Nuggets coach George Karl already had veterans telling him he better play rookie point guard Ty Lawson.
Karl, you see, isn't exactly known for playing rookies.
"You'd better change your ways (because) the kid's got to be on the court," is what Karl said forward Kenyon Martin told him.
Karl added there were other "veterans mumbling about" playing Lawson as well.
Karl hasn't wasted any time this season playing Lawson, who is averaging a surprising 8.8 points and 3.5 assists. It didn't take long for Karl to see what the veterans were talking about.
"We thought Ty (would contribute) after about 10 days of training camp," Karl said.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We just felt to be aggressive on Wade was the best way to start, and fortunately we didn't have to change. I thought we did as good a job as you can on a great player who has the ball an awful lot of the game." --Nuggets coach George Karl, on his team doing a solid job Thursday on Miami star Dwyane Wade, who shot 8-of-20 for 25 points in a 114-96 loss.
