Denver Nuggets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-23

--In his past three games, F Carmelo Anthony has averaged 5.3 assists, which was nearly the double the number he had averaged in Denver's first 10 games.

Remarkably, Anthony has been able to raise his assists average while at the same time upping his scoring. During the past three games, he has averaged 33.0 points.

It's no wonder Anthony, whose seasonal averages are 30.5 points and 3.4 assists, is being considered an early candidate for Most Valuable Player.

--Next up for Denver are the Nets. And that's not necessarily a good thing.

True, New Jersey is 0-13 and threatening to break the NBA record for most losses to start an NBA season (17). But nobody wants to first team this season to lose to the Nets.

The Nets come into Denver on Tuesday trying to stop their losing streak. They also will have some incentive after what happened when they faced the Nuggets on Nov. 4 at home.

The Nets led 51-50 at halftime, but they were blitzed 72-43 in the second half en route to a 122-94 defeat.

Not that he has any desire to play even a close game with the Nets, but Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin, who played with New Jersey from 2000-04, has some sympathy for them.

"A lot of young guys," Martin said, "so it's tough for them right now."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'm feeling a lot better about it, knowing it's nothing serious that's going to require surgery." -- C Chris Andersen, who had an MRI on his ailing right knee that revealed nothing more than tendinitis. He returned to action Saturday.
