Denver Nuggets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-07

Denver Nuggets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-07--At the start of training camp, F Kenyon Martin said his often-injured legs felt as good as they had in many years.

But it didn't take long for Martin again to get hurt. Martin left for good in the second quarter of Friday's game at Miami due to a lower leg contusion. He is expected to get further tests on his leg soon, but Nuggets coach George Karl is projecting Martin could be out "a week or two."

Martin departed after playing just 12 minutes.

"When one person goes down, that's why everybody else gets paid to play," said Nuggets guard Anthony Carter said. "Kenyon (isn't) the whole team."

But the Nuggets don't have much depth in the post so there has to be concern over Martin's injury. It's unclear who might start in his place. With Karl sometimes preferring to bring big man Chris Andersen off the bench, he could look to Renaldo Balkman or Malik Allen.

--The Nuggets have been sizzling lately when it comes to playing in Atlanta. OK, everything is relative.

The Nuggets have won two of their past five games on the road against the Hawks. But that has come after the team lost 14 straight and 17 of 18 in Atlanta.

The Nuggets always have had trouble playing in Atlanta. At least they figure to have plenty of incentive for Saturday's game after they lost 96-88 Friday at Miami for their first defeat of the season.

Perhaps it is the Atlanta nightlife that bogs down the Nuggets. Whatever it is, it hasn't been pretty. Even last season, when the Nuggets tied an NBA team record with 54 wins and advanced to the Western Conference finals, Denver was manhandled 109-91 at Philips Arena.

The Nuggets vow to bounce back after Friday's loss. But Atlanta will be a tough place to do that.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'm not going to give anyone an 'A' on this one. We all have to be disappointed on how we showed up." -- Nuggets coach George Karl, whose team lost 96-88 Friday at Miami.
