Denver Nuggets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-02

Denver Nuggets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-02--In a bit of a surprise move, the Nuggets extended the contract of forward Renaldo Balkman before Monday's deadline. He signed a three-year deal for about $5 million, which will begin with the 2010-11 season.

Had Balkman not signed the extension, he would have become a restricted free agent next summer.

"It feels great," Balkman said.

The Nuggets are investing in Balkman for the future. He has yet to play in the team's first three games because of a coach's decision.

"Contract signings never affect what I think," coach George Karl said.

--In a move that was expected, the Nuggets picked up the fourth-year contract option on guard Arron Afflalo by Monday's deadline. He will make $1.96 million in 2010-11.

"I feel very appreciative," Afflalo said. "Coach told me (Saturday)."

Afflalo had been expecting the move. He was acquired last July from Detroit, and the Nuggets have been raving ever since about his acquisition.

"I really didn't worry about it too much," he said. "But it feels good. I'm very happy."

Afflalo has gotten into all three of Denver's games, averaging 3.3 points.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'm not concerned (because) 3-0 is good. I am happy to be 3-0. Sometimes you (win with offense), but we set out to stop them." -- Guard Chauncey Billups, not worried about his Nuggets giving up so many points in a 133-123 win Sunday over Memphis.
