The Nuggets are loving those tiebreakers. With a 119-112 win Saturday over Golden State, the Nuggets hold tiebreakers over the Warriors and Dallas, the two teams they're battling for the seventh and eighth playoff spots in the West.
But the Nuggets still have work to do. They play at Phoenix on Monday and play host to the Suns on Tuesday.
Still, Saturday's win was a big one. The Nuggets (45-28) moved past the Warriors (44-28) and into sole possession of eighth place in the West playoff race. It marked the first time they have held eighth alone since Feb. 22 and the first time they have had a share of it since Feb. 24.
Denver secured the tiebreaker over the Warriors. So the Nuggets, who lead the season series 2-1 and would win on a better conference record if the series finishes 2-2, would get the nod for the playoffs if the teams finish tied in overall record.
The Nuggets have the tiebreaker over Dallas (45-27) because they won the season series 2-1.
NUGGETS 119, WARRIORS 112: The music in the locker room after the game was appropriate. Kanye West's "Good Life" blared out of the loudspeakers, and Nuggets players were singing along.
The Nuggets on Saturday were living the good life, beating Golden State before a sellout crowd of 19,844 at the Pepsi Center in what was touted as the biggest game of the season.
"That's an understatement," Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin, who scored a season-high 30 points.
Nuggets guard Allen Iverson is sure feeling good about the team's playoff hopes.
"I obviously think we're going to get in," he said.
Then again, Iverson has felt that way for a while.
"I felt good before the game," Iverson said. "It didn't take this game. ... This wasn't a do-or-die game for us. We still got more games to play."
From an individual standpoint, it was a game Iverson wouldn't mind forgetting. He shot 4-of-20 and scored just 14 points.
Iverson has been bothered by a fracture in his right ring finger the last three weeks. He said he aggravated the injury Saturday.
"I got hit on it earlier in the game and it just bothered me throughout," he said.
But what counted for Iverson was Denver getting its fifth straight win.
"I'd take 0-for-20 and win," he quipped. "I'd take Oprah Winfrey and a win."
Helping make up for Iverson's tough night, the Nuggets also got 25 points from Carmelo Anthony and 20 from J.R. Smith. Baron Davis led Golden State with 28.
